Transport Information
Getting to Our Walks
Some of our scheduled walks start from railway stations, but the vast majority do not and will require a little effort to sort your travel arrangements via public transport. To help you plan your travel arrangements we have gathered together a collection of links to useful websites.
Note: Many bus services do not run on a Sunday. You should also check the train service provider's website to determine if rail services have a 'bus replacement service' running due to engineering works.
Please also check when using public transport that the serivce arrives in time to allow you to get from the arrival point to the start location of the walk before the start time. The walk leader cannot be expected to make everyone else wait for one person.
Finding the Start Location
Our Walks and Social Events pages on this website contain Landranger grid references or post codes,
whichever is most appropriate to the location. These items also contain links that when clicked will cause a new browser window to open
displaying a map of the area with the start location indicated by an arrow.
The scale of the map may be changed by clicking the - and + buttons on the zoom control at the bottom right-hand side of the map.
The different scales range from a street plan (with road names), a 1:25000 OS map (showing field boundaries and footpaths),
1:50000 OS map (Landranger), and various scales of road-atlas type maps, which should help you plan your route to the start location.
When driving to a walk, please allow enough time to get to find the location, to find somewhere to park and to get your boots on before the start time of the walk. Please don't hold everyone else up by arriving late.
Car Sharing Scheme
Berkshire Walkers have put together a car sharing scheme using a Google Group account. The facility allows a member to offer a lift or ask for a lift to any particular walk by posting a message to the group. This may be done by either logging into the BW Car Share group or by emailing. (This is a closed user group to prevent member’s email addresses and mobile numbers from being visible on the internet/web.)
If you would like to participate in this car sharing scheme, either to offer lifts or to receive lifts, please send an email with subject of JOIN to transport(at)berkshirewalkers.com. In the main text of the email, please provide your ramblers membership number and indicate whether you are a car owner. (Please allow time for your membership details to be confirmed before your invitation and joining instructions are dispatched.)
This is a new scheme and will only work with the participation of the membership so let’s see those JOIN emails!
